Optical center expands its services to offer additional convenience to patients.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Teleoptometry eye exams are now available at Jacksonville’s Shopko Optical to meet the needs of patients looking for accessible and comprehensive eye exams by a licensed optometrist.

“Patients are able to get the quality care they’ve come to expect from Shopko Optical, only now in a virtual way,” Russ Steinhorst, Shopko Optical CEO said. “Our new optical technology allows us to offer even more accessible and convenient eye care in Jacksonville’s community.”

When patients arrive at Shopko Optical for this type of eye exam, an optician will walk them through a series of pre-screening tests. Then, a remote technician will perform a complete subjective refraction. Following this, an optometrist will appear on the screen in real-time to complete the exam. If needed, the prescription will then be printed in Jacksonville’s Shopko Optical for the patient to use. The average appointment time is approximately 30 minutes.

This program was successfully piloted late last year and will be available in 20 Shopko Optical centers by the end of July.
